First Birthday Cake - A Baby Birthday Cake

”Here is an excellent and very famous first birthday cake idea”

First birthday cake

Things you need for the cake:

  • 1 large sheet cake
  • Number "1" template
  • Fondant and butter icing

Decorating tips for the baby birthday cake:

Firstly, using the number "1" template, I cut out the number "1" shape from the sheet cake.

I then covered the top of the cake with fondant and the sides with royal icing.

Next, I cut out the 'happy birthday Amy' wordings out of fondant using Wilton alphabet cutters. I tinted the letters with gold dust and arranged them onto the cake with a dab of royal icing to secure them in place.

Next, I used pastel blue, green, yellow and pink fondant and cut out small square patterns. I secured the patterns onto the cake with some royal icing and decorated them with small fondant flowers (also cut out of fondant).

I then made the fondant teddy bear and the fondant heart. To make the teddy bear, you need to shape each part of the teddy bear separately. You then have to attach them all together with a damp brush. The fondant heart is simply a heart shape cut out of fondant and tinted with some gold dust. The bear and the heart shape is best done ahead of time so that by time you need to use them, they would have set well and able to hold shape.

I placed the teddy bear on the cake, hugging the gold heart.

Finally, I decorated cake with some pink royal icing flowers and green leaves.
