Graduation Cupcakes

Graduation cupcakes designs typically use motifs such as graduation caps, scroll or miniature graduating boys or girls picks.

Here is a different and creative cupcake decorating idea for a graduation party. Instead of the typical graduation motifs, I made this star cupcakes for a cousin’s graduation party.

The stars were cut out of white fondant using a star shaped cookie cutter. I then colored half of the stars into gold by brushing some edible gold dust onto them using a damp brush. I then sprinkled some glitter dust onto all the stars – the white and also the gold stars, and left them to dry and harden.

On the party day, I covered the cupcakes in blue royal icing. I then placed one star on each cupcake, alternating between the gold and white shining stars.

Notice that the stars are not lying flat on the cupcakes, instead they are standing slightly slanting upright on the cupcakes. Use of royal icing helps in this kind of cupcake designs because once the royal icing sets and hardens, the stars are secured in their upright position.
