small western wedding cake

by Morgann Sears and Catie Ransom
(Trenton,Utah)

My daughter and I own a small bakery that we run out of our home .

My daughter does all the fondant and gum paste art ... I do the baking and frosting / icings .
We created the boots in 3 different stages . Waited for them to dry and then they were hand painted with food safe color .... We made little sunflower and daisy cupcakes to go along with the wedding cake ... The customer LOVED it ....

Standing Cactus Cake

Final Product. Cut dowels off tops at dinner after transporting.

For a Boy Scouts dinner, my son and I made this Cactus Cake. It was a father son cake bake competition with a Southwestern Theme.

When my son told me he wanted to do a cactus cake, I figured no problem. I would just do a cake in a rectangle pan and then cut in the shape of a cactus. He said "No Dad, I want it to stand up like a real cactus.

We developed a framework from 1/4" wooden dowels and made 45 degree angle connectors. Made chocolate cupcakes and frosted with butter crean frosting with tons of green food coloring. We filled the plant pot with rocks and then for the top 1", we broke up some of the cupcakes and mixed in a few mini marshmellows so it looked like potting soil. It won first prize out of 30 theme cakes. (It also tasted great)!

Pumpkin Patch Cake

Halloween 2010 Pumpkin Patch Cake

Halloween 2010 Pumpkin Patch Cake

This is a pumpkin spice cake that I made in a bundt cake pan, I made 2 cakes and turned them on top of each other, I covered the cake with cream cheese frosting, then with my own marshmallow fondant. The bottom has a rice krispy treat that I made with ChocoKrispies and sprinkled some crushed Cheerios on top of. For the mini pumpkins I just dipped marshmallow into orange food coloring that I mixed with some water. The vines were made with icing that I colored green and I added some gummy worms for a creepier effect.

Singapore Orchid Quilted Wedding Cake

by Monica
(Lansdale, PA)

I designed this cake for a wedding. The cake was iced, and covered in fondant and I did a quilted impression in the fondant. I used a mold for the brooches and fabric pleating in the front.

The Singapore orchids are made with gumpaste, dried and dusted.

Candy Garden Cake

by Kristy
(Lawton OK USA)

Fully edible: flowers are made with a twix stem, a ring pop for the middle, starburst petals, and brownie leaves; bugs: starburst, with details in chocolate. Grass is green tinted coconut. Butterflies are recess peanut butter cups and m&ms for trails. The kids had a lot of fun with this one. The funny part is when I was planning this cake I guess I was imagining a bigger cake so when I put everything together on this cake it got all condensed?? I made a chocolate cake in a 9x12 pan and used white frosting.

Ginko Leaf Wedding Cake

Ginko Leaf Wedding Cake

Ginko Leaf Wedding Cake

This wedding cake was decorated with real satin ribbon encircling the base of each tier. The bride had given me her invitation which had a ginko (tree) leaf pattern, and asked me to duplicate it on the cake, coming down from each tier. There were also birds on the invitation, as the groom was an avid bird watcher, so she asked me to incorporate those into the cake design as well.

Sphere Wedding Cake

Sphere Wedding Cake

Sphere Wedding Cake

I made this cake pop wedding cake in May. This cake is covered in hydrangeas, there are over 1000 hydrangea in the cake.

Here are the supplies needed to make this cake:

- purchase Styrofoam spheres(ball) in different sizes (8 inch,10,12) you may want to adjust the size depending on how many cake pops needed. I had 300 in my design.
- I also purchased Wilton square 16 inch cake base
- 1 1/2 inch thick dowel rod( home depot, lowes)
- hot glue gun.

Push the dowel through the base (put a piece of cardboard under the base, remove the dowel and fill with hot glue and immediately put the dowel in the glue filled hole and hold it for at least a minute until it stands on its own and leave overnight to dry hard. This is the post needed to hold the spheres. just put a hole in the middle of all spheres slide onto the dowel. Start filling in with your cake pops use white melted chocolate to place the flowers on.

Floral Cake

This two tiered cake was done for a big birthday celebration. I used spring colors to make buttercream roses, and used some royal icing apple blossoms and daises as well. There is a lattice work border at the base of each tier, and sweet pea flower borders at the top of the bottom tier. The inscriptions were done on the sides of the cake.

Earth Cake and Cupcakes

Earth Cake and Cupcakes

Earth Cake and Cupcakes

I did this cake and cupcakes for a going away party in honor of a woman traveling to Africa to work in an orphanage. I made the earth using a ball pan set, and stacked it on top of the round cake. I decorated the ball cake to look like our world, and then I put two little flags on it- one in America, to stand for her here in New York, and then one in the African country where she was going on the other side of the world. Then, around the round cake, I piped little African children holding hands. The guest of honor's name was also on the side of the cake, with the nearest children's hands extended towards it.

For added servings, I also did the earth cupcakes, decorated with blue, white, and green buttercream to match the cake.
